Tiziana Cantone is a 31 year old woman from Naples Italy. Her ordeal began in the spring of 2015, when she sent a video of herself having sex with her latest lover to her ex and few of her friends. Her boyfriend got the video, watched it and out of spite released it on the internet.
To her dismay, the video was released on the internet and became a huge news on Italian media. It was shared on various social media platforms and people made memes mocking her and sex shaming the fragile girl. It gained over a million views and the shaming didn’t stop and then she turned to alcohol for refuge.
When the sex tape began to go viral, Tiziana apparently began receiving nasty and inappropriate messages, leaving her feeling ashamed. Italian newspapers repeatedly reported the news over and over and this tormented Tiziana. In a last-ditch bid to salvage her reputation, Tiziana mounted a legal challenge calling for the “right to be forgotten”. but this didn’t stop the insults and the spread of her intimate affair.
After a year of trying to put it behind her, she felt there was no escape as people abused her on the streets. Her mother reported she was hurting and had tried to commit suicide severally before she succeeded and took her own life. The 31-year-old killed herself in her basement after spending months feeling depressed about the tape, according to her loved ones.
