Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, who trooped out in their thousands on some strategic roads in Port Harcourt, Friday, in support Donald Trump on his inauguration were barricaded and dispersed with gunshots in the air by soldiers at various areas.
The members, mostly youths, were dispersed for causing disturbances and paralyzing social and business activities in the city. The solidarity march which started as early as 9am started peacefully before it became rowdy necessitating the intervention of the military.
Attempts made by the youths to resist the soldiers at the popular Garrison Bus stop forced the soldiers to fire some shots in the air which caused the youths and other passersby to scamper for safety and diverted to other routes considered safer.
Following the military action, most of the IPOB members diverted to other routes, particularly the Ikwerre Road in order to access the Government House but failed.
Some of the IPOB youths who spoke to newsmen at Ikwerre Road said that they were happy with the victory and the inauguration of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America, expressing hope that his administration would bring the desired change in the world.
The group was optimistic that the emergence of Donald Trump as U.S President would guarantee success for the struggle for the survival of IPOB and the Independent states of Biafra. They also believed that Nnamdi Kanu would also regain his freedom with Donald Trump’s Presidency.
The IPOB members urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give the Indigenous People of Biafra their rightful place in the country and to work closely with President Donald Trump in the interest of the Nigerian people.
According to the group, the Federal government should de-militarize the South-East states of the country to allow the people experience the dividends and values of democracy, expressing its determination to work with the Trump’s administration to actualize their demands for respect for the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Right which they believed, would bring peace and harmony in the country.
