FAYEMI DISTRIBUTES RICE TO EKITI ACROSS 16 LOCAL GOVT FOR XMAS

Minister of Mines and Steel Development, and fomer Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday distributed bags of rice to 6,000 across he 16 local governments of Ekiti state for Christmas yuletide.

The John Kayode Fayemi (JKF) Centre, an advocacy centre, own by Fayemi which carried out the exercise across the local governments in the state began the distribution at10 am yesterday to ensure that all the people got theirs .

The Director of JKF Centre,Mr. Biodun Omoleye, who spoke with reporters at the main distribution point in Ado Ekiti, said the minister was carrying out the gesture to cushion the effect of the economic hardship being faced by the people, saying it has no political attachment, but purely humanitarian to provide succour to the people during this Yuletide.

According to him, the Centre had in June this year distributed food materials to civil servants, labour unions, teachers and local government workers following non-payment of arrears of salaries, pointing out that the JKF Centre gave priority to the indigent people, widows, orphans and the needy with the exercise driven by faith-based and non-governmental organizations.

He said: “Our patron (Fayemi) identifies with the people of the state because no serious-minded individual will look on while the people needs help and we are in our own little way alleviating the suffering of our people.

“This is not a one-off thing  as it is a continuation of our desire to put smiles on the faces of our people . It is not political or partisan and we are not targeting members of a particular party but the needy because hunger does not know party affiliation and color of the skin.”

When asked by journalists whether Fayemi was doing this to gain more political relevance ahead of 2018 Governorship election in the state, Omoleye declared that “Our patron does not need to do this to make himself relevant because he is a major stakeholder in the state and a national stakeholder and what he is doing has no political colouration.”

Apart from this, “JKF Centre slso plans to organize entrepreneurship training for young graduates to empower them and reduce unemployment in the state. the entrepreneurship training will be anchored around vocational training, mining, farming, environmental sanitation and information and communication technology amon others”.
