This discussion took centre stage during a pre-conference press briefing at the Federal Medical Center Umuahia, Abia State Capital, Southeast Region.
According to the National President, Col (Dr) Akin Moses, the present state of most of the primary health centers as treatment centers for selected illnesses would soon be a thing of the past as the Family Physicians are willing and eager to partner with government especially at the primary care level to manage the under-utilized health centers with a view to improving consumer confidence.
This call became necessary because Family Physicians being at the forefront of the implementation of concepts such as community oriented primary and clinical care, patient-centered care and community based health Insurance, can expect to have some progress towards the attainment of universal health coverage.
“Improving the role and ratio of family physicians in the provision of efficient primary care would improve health outcomes.
